My Trip to Beijing
Beijing, the capital city of China as well as the 2008 Olympic Games host city, was the place I was longing for a visit. Last summer holiday my friends and I took a 7-day tour of Beijing. The few days in Beijing have left me beautiful memories that I would never forget. On 22 July, we were finally on the way to Beijing. After two hours flight, we arrived in Beijing at 5:30pm just in time to see the sunset. Quite a nice welcome to Beijing. It was my first time to travel with my friends. I was so excited and Beijing is a very big and beautiful city. On the first day morning, we visited Tian’anmen Square. Tian’anmen square is magnificent, it is one of the largest city squares in the world. It was built in 1417 and is the entrance gate to the Forbidden City. There were so many tourists in Tian’anmen Square and the security check was strict. And then we went to the Forbidden City, it is really big, and rich in content. We rented a portable electronic guide devices, all the way to explain. The Forbidden City is very splendid and beautiful. Next day we visited "The Bird Nest" and "The Water Cube". The opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics and the swimming competitions was held in these two stadiums respectively. I had read a lot about them in the newspaper. Now I was finally able to see those grand buildings with my own eyes. I was so thrilled. Applauses for the workers who built them! The Great Wall was another place you could not miss if you came to Beijing. Today, I finally climbed on it. It rained heavily, but the rain could not stop me. I saw many beacon towers. I stood on the Great Wall and felt as if I were in a fairy land. The mountains around the Great Wall looked much more elegant after the rain. We traveled a lot of places: Tiananmen Square, the Great Hall of the People's Heroes Monument, the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Ming Tombs, the Ming emperor Wax Museum, Grand View Garden, Summer Palace, walking street, Xidan, and ate a lot of snack. On the last day, we went to the biggest royal palace—Summer Palace. There was a long corridor in it. The roof of the corridor was
painted with colorful patterns. So exquisite! Kunming Lake was on one of its sides. At sunset, it looked so serene and tranquil. The 7-day trip to Beijing was soon over. I was so reluctant to leave. Every time when I think of Beijing, I still feel excited. I think, if I have another chance, I will go to Beijing to enjoy the beautiful scenes again.
